Newport City Council is planning to remove the recycling banks located on Tregwilym Road.
The site has unfortunately become a fly-tipping hot spot and a source of problems for local residents, which has resulted in the proposal to remove the banks.
Despite CCTV monitoring being in place, and our efforts to empty the banks several times a week, the issue has not improved and removal of the banks has been provisionally scheduled for the week commencing Monday 23 November.
The council has already issued fines for fly-tipping in the vicinity, with a total of 36 fly-tipping and 10 littering fixed penalty notices issued for the Tregwilym area this year, a number of which have been issued to people living outside of Newport.
Improvement in services and collections at kerbside mean that local small recycling banks are used less, which has led to them being increasingly phased out across Wales.
Newport residents also benefit from weekly recycling collection at the kerbside, and can also order additional recycling containers online free of charge.
Bigger items or waste not collected at the kerbside can be taken to our household waste recycling centre free of charge, while bulky item collections can also be arranged for a small fee.
