Tesco to donate Halloween costumes to community groups

Wannabe Welsh witches, ghosts, goblins and vampires could definitely grab a treat rather than a trick thanks to a surplus of unsold fancy dress from Tesco stores.

Due to the current firebreak lockdown, Halloween items including dressing up costumes for children, partyware, tricks or treats or face paints that might usually be part of traditional Halloween house parties are classed as non-essential.

So rather than leave these to go to waste on their shelves, Tesco has decided to donate what stock they have to local community and charity groups so they can be put to good use in the future.

Tesco Community Champions and store representatives will contact charities and following government guidelines, safely arrange for the items to be collected following lockdown. The costumes could benefit schools, children’s clubs, youth groups or young people’s charities.

Claire De Silva, Head of Community at Tesco, said: “We couldn’t let the stock just go to waste and would love the outfits to be used to celebrate a ghoulish gathering another time when everyone can safely enjoy them. We hope they bring a little joy.”
