Merthyr bus station main contractor Morgan Sindall has filmed footage using a drone to show how close to being completed the building is.

The video shows how much progress has been made at the site, even with the constraints of the pandemic, with the station on schedule for opening in the spring.“We were thrilled to have the opportunity to fly a drone over the new build and see that the vision of the project has come together,” said Morgan Sindall Project Manager Ross Williams.

“There is a great sense of satisfaction across the site,” he added.  “Tradespeople take an immense pride in the finishes being achieved because of the quality of materials they are able to work with and the design. And the design team are seeing their vision becoming a reality.

“The fly through has been excellent for all those involved with the project and inspired them to drive for the final completion and finish to the highest standards.  We hope it also fuels an interest from the communities within which we work and ultimately those who will be using the new station in the near future.”

Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Public Protection Cllr Geraint Thomas said: “The fly through gives a real impression of the new station and how it will serve the community and run when fully completed.  You can see the links to the town centre, the whole town and beyond.

“The new Merthyr Tydfil Bus Interchange is an impressive addition to the town, and it is great to be able to see it from every angle against the existing townscape.”

Welsh Government awarded the County Borough Council £11m funding for the station, which will be located closer to the town’s railway station, to complement its significant investment in the Core Valley Lines Rail Network.
