St Tydfil Shopping Centre is delighted to announce that Merthyr Tydfil Swimming Club, Cerys Driscoll Music Tuition and Tag Community Youth Centre have been chosen as the latest finalists in its St Tydfil Cares Community Fund giveaway.

Groups that are arranging activities for children during the school summer holiday were invited to apply for £200 to spend at Wilko in the shopping centre. All applications were whittled down to just three and it’s now down to the local community to vote for who they would like to win.

Merthyr Tydfil Swimming Club is organising a day of surfing in the Gower and a day at Bryn Bach Park for children. The club would use the vouchers to purchase outdoor equipment, so the children could enjoy team building games.

Cerys Driscoll is a music tutor of piano, flute, clarinet, oboe and music theory and will be holding extra classes throughout the summer. She would use the vouchers to help with lesson supplies and purchase stationery for certificates, so the children have something to work towards.

The Tag Community Youth Centre has more than 100 members aged between six and 18 and aims to provide a safe and welcoming environment for the young people of Merthyr to socialise. It will be open throughout the school holiday and would use the Wilko vouchers to purchase outdoor toys, so members can spend as much time as possible in the fresh air.

Julie Calderbank, Operations Manager at St Tydfil Shopping Centre, commented:

“Keeping the kids entertained throughout the school holidays can sometimes be tricky, so we wanted to show support to local groups who are putting on activities. We’d like to encourage the local community to get involved and vote for who they would like to win, and the best of luck to all three of our finalists.”

Votes can be cast by visiting St Tydfil Shopping Centre’s Facebook page and liking the post at the top of the page by choosing a Facebook reaction, or by emailing [email protected] and putting the name of the group being voted for in the subject line.

The vote will take place between Monday 16th July and midnight on Sunday 29th July 2018. Votes cast outside these dates will not be counted and only one email vote per person will be counted.

The winner of the £200 Wilko voucher will be the group that receives the most votes.
