Swansea Market to welcome a whole new range of traders this week

One of Wales’ best loved indoor markets will welcome a whole new range of traders this week.

Swansea Market will host its first monthly farmer’s market from 9am-3pm on Friday and Saturday (July 13-14).

It will mean a vibrant new feel to the heart of the historic, bustling attraction. Guest stallholders will offer everything from fudge, ice cream and deli delights to furniture and bathtime treats.

Those behind the farmer’s market are the Swansea Market Traders Federation, Swansea Council and the Swansea Business Improvement District (BID).

    Federation chairman Chris Evans said:

“Our farmer’s market will give more shoppers more reasons to enjoy Swansea Market which already has over 100 stalls boasting a wide selection of fresh, local produce and traditional Welsh goods.

“It’ll make one of Wales’ most celebrated real-life shopping experiences even more colourful, friendly and fun!”

Council cabinet member for investment, regeneration and tourism Robert Francis-Davies said:

“Our city centre has a great future thanks to a stunning transformation that’s under way and our existing businesses. Events such as the farmer’s market will help in the success by attracting more people.

“We’re delighted to support this great market-within-a-market idea from federation members.”

BID chief executive Russell Greenslade said:

“Farmer’s markets are increasingly popular throughout the UK, reflecting people’s growing interest in buying good quality, locally grown and sourced food with low air miles. Of course, Swansea Market has always catered very well to this need – we feel as if the rest of the country is catching up with us!

“We’re thrilled to help launch this first series of farmer’s markets in the indoor market. We’re working hard on it with market traders and the council and we encourage shoppers to come along and enjoy the extra stalls on offer. BID and its members aim to make Swansea city centre a better place to shop, study, stay, visit and do business, and this initiative really fits the bill.”

Planned dates this year include: July 13-14, August 10-11, September 7-8, October 12-13, November 9-10 and December 8-9.
