    Postcode Local Trust, a grant-giving charity funded entirely by players of People’s Postcode Lottery, has funded a Keep Wales Tidy project at Griffithstown Primary School in Torfaen. The Griffithstown Primary Wildlife Project will create and manage wildlife habitats on the school grounds to improve biodiversity.

    Keep Wales Tidy work closely with pupils, teachers, parents and the wider community to plan and create several different habitat areas including a pond and a wildflower area. Improvements will be made to access the nearby woodland and canal which runs past the school.

    The project will not only help local wildlife, but also provide the school with ever changing spaces for environmental education where children can learn and explore the outdoors.

    Equipment will also be provided by Keep Wales Tidy for the school to carry on with environmental activities and monitor any changes to the wildlife as the area thrives.

    Chris Partridge from Keep Wales Tidy said;

    “The Griffithstown Primary School’s Wildlife Project provides opportunities for pupils not only to learn about why habitats are important but allows them to take further steps in conservation. Projects like this demonstrate our commitment to achieving a sustainable future for schools and the wider community.  We’d like to say a big thank you to Postcode Local Trust, without their generous support this project could not be possible.”

    Keep Wales Tidy is a charity working to care for and improve the Welsh environment. Please visit www.keepwalestidy.cymru for further information.
