The Royal Mint Experience launches virtual tours

The Royal Mint Experience, based in Llantrisant, South Wales, has launched a 360˚ virtual tour in conjunction with Mr. Men Little Miss, letting people explore behind the scenes of The Royal Mint from the comfort of their own home.

Whilst the visitor attraction remains temporarily closed, visitors can go behind the scenes of The Royal Mint virtually (and free of charge). The launch of the virtual tours coincides with The Royal Mint’s launch of a commemorative coin collection celebrating 50 years of fun with the Mr. Men Little Miss characters.

Special guest Little Miss Inventor has taken on the responsibility as Virtual Tour Guide at The Royal Mint Experience. Little Miss Inventor will take members of the public on 360˚ virtual tour through 1,100 years of history to discover how coins are made, what happened when Sir Isaac Newton ran the Mint, and how new designs are created.

Clare Maclennan, Divisional Director of The Royal Mint Experience said, “We welcome approximately 100,000 visitors a year to go behind the scenes of The Royal Mint to discover how the coins in their pockets are made as well as find out more about the Mint’s 1,100-year history. It was a difficult but necessary decision to close the doors of our visitor attraction temporarily last year, but we are excited to be able to welcome back visitors virtually with the help of Little Miss Inventor as our tour guide. We hope members of the public will enjoy this opportunity to go behind the scenes of The Royal Mint and find out more about the coins we all have in our pockets, with a view to visit us in person one day.”

Adam Hargreaves, son of Roger Hargreaves, main author and illustrator of Mr. Men and Little Miss and designer of the Mr. Men Little Miss commemorative coin collection said, “It is a pleasure to have Little Miss Inventor be the first guide of The Royal Mint Experience’s Virtual Tour. Little Miss Inventor is a fan and expert at inventing things, so being the official tour guide of the The Royal Mint’s visitor attraction is an exciting new role for her and one I know she’ll enjoy!”

Members of the public are able to access the 360˚ virtual tour on The Royal Mint’s website and YouTube channel via a smart device like a mobile phone or tablet, a desktop or laptop computer or with a virtual reality headset.
