Gwynedd Council’s Library Service is contributing to a brand new Welsh language podcast for readers.

‘Byw Llyfrau’ will be discussing all kinds of books, chatting with different authors from Wales about their books and reading interests. It’s a light, easy-to-listen podcast that will hopefully appeal to all book lovers.

The Welsh Government funded Estyn Allan project is being led by the Society of Chief Librarians Wales which offers representatives from each authority the opportunity to take part in a digital training project. Library staff from Gwynedd, Conwy, Ceredigion and Denbigh are leading on the production of the podcast.

Rhian Evans, Gwynedd Council’s Consumer Services Librarian, said: “We received training on all kinds of digital elements, such as social media, video editing, live streaming and podcasting.

“Following the training we were encouraged to create content. Therefore Delyth, Lois, Judith and I take part in various chapters and we share the technical side of the work amongst ourselves with the support of the rest of the Estyn Allan group.”

Councillor Gareth Thomas, Gwynedd Council’s Cabinet Member for the Economy, said: “As more people are enjoying listening to podcasts now more than ever, it’s great to see another Welsh series to add to the list.

“This investment is helping us make use of a contemporary and popular media to enhance the digital presence and profile of public libraries in Wales.

“I’m sure the podcast will be a success, and I look forward to listening to it.”

The first episode includes a talk with author Rebecca Roberts, where two pupils from Ysgol Brynrefail ask her about her popular book for young people – #helynt.

A preview of the podcast can be found here: https://linktr.ee/bywllyfrau   and it’s available on all major podcast platforms including the Welsh Podcast platform – YPOD
