A high school in Cardiff is creating a memorial garden to help their school community remember lost loved ones while supporting City Hospice’s Forever Flowers campaign.
Mary Immaculate High School in the west of Cardiff has purchased a number of Forever Flowers to feature in the central display of a garden of remembrance within the school grounds.
Forever Flowers is a new campaign by City Hospice which invites supporters to purchase limited-edition flowers to remember cherished family members, friends and loved ones. The unique and lasting tributes will feature in a striking display at Cardiff Castle from Saturday July 24 to Sunday August 8, after which the flowers can be collected or delivered.
The school originally got involved with the campaign by purchasing a flower in memory of popular colleague and Head of Design Technology Dawn Wilson, an inspiration to staff and pupils during her time at the school, who sadly passed away with cancer.
As a faith school, Mary Immaculate High School wanted to support City Hospice, who provide specialist care to individuals with life limiting or terminal illness and their families, due to their shared values of compassion, respect and care and further purchased several Forever Flowers to represent pupils, staff and governors, serving as a way to remember all those they have lost.
The Forever Flowers will feature in a central display of a memorial garden designed and created by year nine pupils who opt to participate in the horticultural course of the school’s new enrichment programme.
It is hoped that the garden will become a place of quiet refuge where pupils can take time to remember loved ones. Pupils will be encouraged to talk about their thoughts and feelings in a calm, relaxing environment, away from the busy main school buildings.
Mrs Annmarie Wilson, Deputy Headteacher at Mary Immaculate High School, said: “We are supporting Forever Flowers as the work of City Hospice lives out our values of respect, care, compassion and love. Over the years we have lost pupils, staff and family members and the Forever Flowers are a way for us to remember all of those we have loved and lost.
“The Forever Flowers will help us to create a lasting memorial through our garden which we hope will help support pupils, staff and governors in difficult times, particularly when faced with bereavement and loss. Forever Flowers provides all of our community with a lasting feature to remember all those we have lost. They symbolise for us that death is not the end, and that life continues to grow and be nurtured even after we lose someone we love.”
