The incredible team at the National Lido of Wales, Lido Ponty, have done it again – extending the current season by another two weeks until October 17th!
The much-loved Lido Ponty was set to close its doors for the main 2021 season on October 3, having welcomed over 85,000 visitors this year alone – despite the restrictions that remain in place due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.
However, due to popular demand, it has been decided to keep the doors of Lido Ponty open for another two weeks, meaning fans have until October 17 to enjoy it.
The timetable remains largely the same – weekday early morning swims and daytime swim/splash pool sessions and after-school fun with activities and inflatables.
The only change is on the weekend. The early morning swim remains on Saturday and Sunday, followed by six – instead of the previous seven – fun sessions with activities and inflatables.
This means Lido Ponty is now open:
Monday-Friday for two early-morning lane/casual swims, followed by two day-time sessions for either lane/casual swim or for parents/carers to spend time in the splash pool with pre-school children. Followed by two after-school fun sessions with inflatables and activities.
Saturday and Sunday – an early morning swim session followed by six fun sessions with inflatables and activities.
Lido Ponty entrance prices remain fixed at £2 per adult and free for those aged 16 and under. Activities can be added on for £2.50, either at the time of booking online or on arrival for your session.
Hundreds more people will have a chance to enjoy Lido Ponty as a result of the decision, which has only been made possible thanks to the commitment and enthusiasm of the Lido Ponty team, who have eagerly agreed to stay on for a longer season.
Restrictions do remain in place at Lido Ponty, in terms of reduced session numbers and the need to wear masks when walking about the building, to keep staff and the community safe.
Cllr Ann Crimmings, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Leisure and Heritage Services, said: “When The National Lido of Wales, Lido Ponty was devastated by Storm Dennis in February 2020 we vowed it would rise stronger than ever.
“Little did we know there was a global pandemic on the horizon that left the venue closed for all of 2020. However, throughout that closure and lockdown, staff worked tirelessly to repair and restore Lido Ponty to its former glory and did an incredible job.
“To think that 85,000 people – the second-highest number of visitors since 2015 – have enjoyed Lido Ponty this year, despite the restrictions that remain in place due to Covid-19 is an incredible achievement.
“This could not have happened without the commitment of the Lido Ponty team and the support and enthusiasm of its customers. To come back from such a devastating time with the flood and the pandemic is no mean feat, let alone to come back almost better than before.
“A huge thanks to everyone for their support and patience and enjoy the extended 2021 season!”
