Over two hundred people took part in The Sparkle Walk on September 18, raising thousands of pounds to support the work of City Hospice, Cardiff’s local hospice.

Participants donned glitter and glowsticks for the 10k night-time walk, with many also carrying photographs of their loved ones to keep them and their memory close during the event.

The evening began with a fun warm up by personal trainer Katherine Warren of KatsPlan before setting off on the route which started and finished within the grounds of Insole Court. The starlit walk through Llandaff and Whitchurch included a stop at City Hospice where participants could leave a message for their loved ones in the charity’s specially designed Memory Garden.

The Sparkle Walk raises funds for City Hospice, the only provider of home-based specialist palliative care in the capital. The charity provides care to 550 patients with terminal or life limiting illnesses at any one time, in addition to counselling and support services for families.

Daisy Magill, Fundraising and Events Coordinator at City Hospice, said: “After a year’s hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic, we were so happy to bring The Sparkle Walk back and join together with supporters to share memories of loved ones. We’d like to thank everyone who took part, as well as our amazing volunteers and sponsors, for helping us continue to care for our community in Cardiff.”

Gray Hill, Director of Insole Court, said: “City Hospice is one of Cardiff’s most important charities. Like the Insole Court Trust, it supports people in the community, and The Sparkle Walk is a fantastic event which brings people together to do something positive.

“We love welcoming visitors from across Cardiff and beyond, and were delighted to be able offer our beautiful grounds to host the event.”

The Sparkle Walk was proudly sponsored by Dario Security, a Cardiff based security company.

Dario De’Abreu, Managing Director of Dario Security Co Ltd, said: “All the team at Dario Security live in Cardiff and we’re proud of our city. Supporting City Hospice is our pleasure and we are honoured to be associated with a charity so loved by our community.

“Sadly, The Sparkle Walk was cancelled last year due to the pandemic so we were thrilled to be able to get involved and support the event this year. A treasured event for so many, it is a unique experience for families and friends to celebrate the life of their lost loved ones and come together with their community to shine a light on remembrance.”
