RCT Theatres panto Aladdin is now a free cinema experience

RCT Theatres is delighted to announce that their traditional family panto Aladdin is now a FREE magical ‘cinema experience’ which will be shown on the big screen at both the Coliseum Theatre, Aberdare, and The Park & Dare Theatre, Treorchy, on Friday, December 17, to Thursday, December 23.

Starring Wales’ favourite female impersonator Ceri Dupree as Widow Twankey, plus a full supporting cast, this pre-recorded pantomime brings you all the magic and sparkle of their traditional family panto shown on the big screen.

Aladdin, the magical cinema experience, will also be available on RCT Theatres’ YouTube channel from December 24-31, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the wonder of panto.

Councillor Rhys Lewis, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council Cabinet Member for Stronger Communities, Well-being and Cultural Services, said: “I am delighted that RCT Theatres is now able to move forward in a measured and cautious manner to once again welcome audiences safely back into the venues.

“Offering a free cinema screening of Aladdin, alongside the free online digital offer, will ensure our magical family pantomime reaches a wide audience, including any digitally-excluded residents.

“This also supports the Council’s commitment to fully re-open our theatres over the coming months and encourage our loyal and new audience members to return.”

Due to the Welsh Government relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions, with the country now on Alert Level Zero, RCT Cabinet has agreed to proceed with plans to provide a digital festive offer of the popular family pantomime.

Audiences can be assured that a number of measures will also be introduced in order to protect staff, audience members, performers and participants of organised arts activities within the theatres. These control measures will be regularly reviewed and amended to match Welsh Government and Council guidance and industry best practice.

During the closure of both the Park & Dare and Coliseum Theatres, the Council, in conjunction with RCT Theatres, has made improvements to its buildings to ensure the safe return of audiences. Improvements include the introduction of hand sanitising stations, an enhanced cleaning regime and additional signage to guide audiences around the venues.

RCT Theatres’ staff are trained in new health and safety measures and are available to help throughout your time in the building. All front-of-house staff are easily identifiable with their branded shirts.

As part of their commitment to make performances fully accessible to all audiences, there will be an Audio Described and socially distanced performance on Sunday, December 19, at 2.00pm.

Aladdin will be screened at both the Coliseum Theatre and Park & Dare Theatre on December 17-23. Tickets must be pre-booked and will be available free of charge (max 6 per person) from Tuesday, November 9, through the Box Office on 03000 040 444 or online via www.rct-theatres.co.uk
