Drivers are being warned that a further overnight road closure will soon take place as part of resurfacing works along a stretch of the A4063 near Maesteg.
Part of the WEPA Paper Mills’ ongoing £100m expansion, work was due to be completed last week but poor weather and plant operational issues meant the work was unable to be finished.
The rescheduled work is expected to take place on 8 November between 11pm and 4am the following day. This will affect the A4063 from the layby opposite the paper mills to the Cefn Ydfa access. With a temporary diversion route in place along the A4063, B4281, A4107 and B4282, the closure hours have been carefully selected to minimise disruption and inconvenience for drivers.
While the works are planned for one night, should the weather become an issue they may need to be delayed again, with the 9th and 10th of November being set aside for reserve dates – between the same time slot. Signing will be erected should there be these delays.
The resurfacing work is part of the paper mills’ ongoing £100m expansion and will see the construction of a new entrance into the site. The local authority approved expansion plans which will safeguard 270 existing jobs and create 54 new roles.
Once the work is complete, the site is expected to produce an additional 65,000 tons of toilet paper and kitchen towels for the British market each year.
As part of the plans, WEPA is also contributing £80,000 towards new traffic calming measures on the A4063 at Coytrahen and plans for a new active travel route for the Llynfi Valley.
Unfortunately due to the weather and a temporary plant operational issue, these works were unable to be completed and are now due to be concluded next week.
As a key route in and out of Maesteg, the local authority and contractors for the paper mills are making every effort to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum while these vital works are undertaken.
