Bridgend County Borough Council has revealed details on where it is planning to install electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
Each candidate site is currently being assessed and is dependent upon conditions ranging from Western Power supplies to planning requirements and partnership agreement.
As part of the Cardiff Capital Region City Deal, £2.87m has been set aside for installing electric vehicle charging points in a range of public places across the region.
The candidate sites being considered within Bridgend County Borough include:
- Pencoed Railway Station Park and Ride car park.
- Maesteg car park.
- Rhiw multi storey car park in Bridgend.
- Brackla Street surface car parks.
- John Street car park in Porthcawl.
- Porthcawl Salt Lake development.
- Innovation Centre in Bridgend
- Pyle Railway Station park and ride car park.
- Tondu Road car park.
- Tremains Road car park.
- Neath Road, Maesteg.
- Hillsboro Place car park in Porthcawl.
- West Drive / Mallards Way (kerbside) in Porthcawl.
- Eastern Promenade (kerbside) in Porthcawl.
Additional charging points are planned for further public places, car parks and work locations around the county borough as part of a £462,000 grant provided by Welsh Government’s Ultra Low Emission Vehicle Transformation Fund and a further £300,000 to help support the local authority’s decarbonisation of its service vehicles.
The project is designed to meet Welsh Government’s vision for electric charging in Wales which aims to ensure that by 2025, all users of electric cars and vans can be confident of accessing electric vehicle charging infrastructure when and where they need it.
Candidate sites currently being considered for this include:
- Chilcott Avenue in Brynmenyn.
- Bridgend County Borough Council’s Civic Offices, Bryncethin Depot and Tondu Depot.
- Bowls Hall Car Park in Bridgend.
- Halo leisure centres – including Bridgend Life Centre, Ogmore Vale Life Centre, Garw Valley Life Centre, Maesteg Sports Centre, Pyle Pool, Ynysawdre Pool and,Pencoed Pool.
As part of our Bridgend 2030 decarbonisation strategy, we welcome this first phase of funding support and look forward to adding more electric vehicle charging points across the county borough to support communities and the provision of local services.
With enquiries from the public on the installation of electric vehicle charging infrastructure increasing and county-wide strategy in development, these first sites are just the beginning.
