Professor Donna Whitehead joins the University of South Wales today (Monday 15 November) as the University’s new Deputy Vice-Chancellor.

Joining USW’s Executive Board, Professor Whitehead will report directly to the Vice-Chancellor and will help drive forward the implementation of the University’s 2030 Strategy, specifically focusing on the provision of high quality, innovative academic teaching, growing our market share and excellent student experience.

Professor Whitehead re-joins USW from the London Metropolitan University, where she was Deputy Vice-Chancellor. Prior to that, Professor Whitehead was Pro Vice-Chancellor and Executive Dean for the Faculty of Business and Law at UWE. Professor Whitehead has previously worked at the University of South Wales as Deputy Dean for the Faculty of Business and Society and brings with her a wealth of experience in creating innovative and inclusive learning environments.

Dr Ben Calvert, Vice-Chancellor and CEO at the University of South Wales, said: “I am delighted to welcome Professor Whitehead back to USW as our Deputy Vice-Chancellor. Professor Whitehead will be working to develop our portfolio so that is aligned to our strategic ambitions and to ensure balanced and sustainable growth for USW.

“As we focus on the future, and delivering our USW 2030 Strategy, I know Donna will make a significant contribution.

Her passion for equality of opportunity within higher education aligns perfectly with our commitment to widening participation. I look forward to working closely with her in creating innovative and inclusive learning experiences for all of our students.”

Professor Whitehead said: “I’m thrilled to take up the role as Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of South Wales. It is a university that I know well and is going through an exciting transformation through its USW 2030 Strategy. I have been greatly impressed by its plans and ambition.

“I am looking forward to working with colleagues and a wider group of stakeholders to continue to diversify our course portfolio, enhance our industry links and, most importantly, ensure all students are given the opportunity to acquire the skills necessary to succeed in their chosen career and make their mark in the world.”
