Cardiff-headquartered Cornerstone Finance Group is proud to announce that it will partner with Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA), as it has been chosen as the company’s charity of the year for 2021/22.

The company, which employs more than 65 staff and associates from its Cardiff Gate headquarters, has chosen the charity as it is close to the hearts of many of the team who work at Cornerstone. The Cornerstone team now aims to raise £25,000 during the course of the year.

As part of the fundraising drive, colleagues at Cornerstone will build on its successful charity golf day, held last month, and plan to host events including a festive fundraiser, a cupcake day, as well as a team event to conquer the Welsh three peaks.

Gareth Morgan, Director of Cornerstone Finance Group, explains the link up:

“Many of us at Cornerstone have sadly been touched by the effects of motor neurone disease, with a close colleague and friend being diagnosed by the illness three years ago.

“We have seen the impact of MNDA’s support and want to help make a difference to the thousands of people who are living with motor neurone disease in the UK today.

“We have the backing of our colleagues and associates and have a busy year of fundraising planned, so that we can raise as much money as possible for this worthwhile and fantastic charity.”

MND is a fatal, rapidly progressing disease that affects the brain and spinal cord. It can affect a person’s ability to walk, talk, eat and ultimately to breathe. A third of people die within a year of diagnosis and half within two years. There is no effective treatment and no cure.

Richard Shackelford, Regional Fundraiser (Wales, Northern Ireland & Merseyside) for MNDA, said:

“We are delighted and very grateful that Cornerstone Finance Group have chosen the MND Association as their charity of the year. Every year, in England, Wales and Northern Ireland around 5000 people are diagnosed with MND, and although that figure does not sound high the devastating effect on the patient and their family is out of all proportion to the disease’s incidence. Cornerstone’s support is vital both in terms of raising awareness and indeed funds and this will help us maintain and develop our services to people living with MND here in Wales.”
