A transformed Newport Market has officially opened its doors to the public after the completion of a multi-million regeneration project.

It will have a host of new traders plus some familiar faces, a food court with a diverse offering business and event spaces.

A launch event was held last week week for specially invited guests, including Newport City Council leader Councillor Jane Mudd, following the completion of what is believed to be the largest indoor market redevelopment in Europe.

“It is fantastic to see how the refurbished building has retained many of the traditional market features while giving it an appealing fresh and modern look. It also has a great offering that will appeal to people of all ages

“There is a real buzz in the city, and beyond, about the revived market and that is evident when you look at the fantastic businesses that want to trade there.

“Our aim in handing over management to Loft-co and Simon Baston was to make it more viable and sustainable while complementing the existing offer in the High Street area. I believe it now has an exciting future.

“Market Arcade, the traditional shopping link between High Street and the market, has also been restored in a project led by the council and supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

“I’m sure people will flock to support this vibrant and exciting 21st century Newport Market and Market Arcade as they both start an exciting new chapter in their stories.”

The market will be open seven days a week with the food court open from Wednesdays to Sundays.
