This is the first look around the £7m state-of-the-art NGS Macmillan palliative care unit being built at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital.

The architects who designed the Y Bwthyn NGS Macmillan Unit have created a film giving people a first look at what the unit will look like.
It gives viewers a look around the spacious environment and the comfortable bedrooms, which feature private screened terraces for patients who wish to go outside.
The eight-bed unit is being built by Macmillan Cancer Support and the National Garden Scheme in partnership with Cwm Taf University Health Board to provide specialist care for people with incurable cancer and other conditions.
[/aoa]Macmillan is donating £5m towards the unit – which will create a welcoming and comfortable environment – £2.5m of which has been donated generously to the project by the National Garden Scheme.
The further £2m for the unit has been given by the Welsh Government via its All Wales Capital Programme.

“We are so pleased to give people their first look around the Y Bwthyn NGS Macmillan Unit, which is the biggest build Macmillan has developed in Wales.
“The unit will be a state-of-the-art and welcoming environment for people needing palliative care from the Rhondda and Taff Ely areas and we’re proud to be building it in partnership with Cwm Taf University Health Board.
“We are grateful to the National Garden Scheme for donating £2.5m towards the £5m Macmillan’s investing in the unit and we can only build it thanks to the generosity of our donors.”
George Plumptre, Chief Executive at the National Garden Scheme, said:
“We are very proud to have been working with Macmillan for over 30 years and are excited to share this video of the new unit today. We hope that our contribution will make a real difference to people with cancer in Llantrisant and their loved ones for many years to come.”
Alan Lawrie, interim director of primary, community and mental health at Cwm Taf University Health Board said:
“We are delighted to be working with Macmillan and the National Garden Scheme and are looking forward to having such a fantastic facility to provide high quality services to our patients.”
The building work for the unit started in November 2017 and the aim is that it will open its doors in May 2019.
