Following the Ofgem decision to raise the energy cap, Swansea’s Energy Awareness Hub team has announced a series of free community roadshows in September that are open to all.

The initiative is being funded by Swansea Council’s Economic Recovery Fund  and the roadshows will offer common-sense support to those looking for ways to reduce household energy consumption to help deal with the cost of living crisis.

Community events in September include a number in Morriston, Gorseinon, Clydach, Penlan and the city centre.

Additionally, the city centre Environment Centre is due to host free energy awareness talks – Wednesday, September 14, noon-1pm (online only) and Tuesday, September 27, from 4-5pm at the centre in Pier Street. Bookings: www.bit.ly/SwanseaEnergyTalks

Andrea Lewis, the council’s joint deputy leader and cabinet member for service transformation, said: “The council continues to help those living close to the breadline – and our energy hub has proved to be an important new resource for them and others who want to keep energy bills as low as possible and to keep their homes warm.”

Rhian Corcoran, manager of Environment Centre Swansea, said: “Our guidance is backed by a network of experts and it can help whoever needs it. Anybody concerned about the costs of fuel to themselves or relatives can pop along to one of our local visits and chat in confidence with our team.”

Swansea Energy Awareness Hub partners and supporters include energy network operator Western Power Distribution, the National Energy Agency, fuel poverty specialist Warm Wales, council departments, youth charity Swansea MAD, EON Energy, City Energy and Yes Energy Solutions.

    Forthcoming free community events include:

    • Morriston Library – Thursday, September 8 and 22 – 10am-4pm
    • Gorseinon Library – Thursday, September 15 and 29 – 10am-4pm
    • Clydach Library – Friday, September 16 – 10am-4pm, and Wednesday, September 28 – 10am-2pm
    • Penlan Foodbank (South Penlan Community Centre) – Friday, September 9 and 23 – 10am-noon.
    • Quadrant Employability Hub – Tuesday, September 20 – 10am-2pm
