Bridgend County Borough Council is urging people to stay out of the water at Porthcawl Harbour this summer, warning that a split second decision to jump from the harbour walls could have life changing consequences.
The warning highlights the dangers of harbour jumping, also known as tombstoning, and comes as more people head to the coast during the school holidays.
The council says jumping from the harbour walls puts people at risk of serious impact injuries from walls and ledges, as well as hidden hazards beneath the surface, including rocks and slipways.
Other dangers include cold water shock, strong currents and the risk of collisions with boats entering or leaving the marina.
The council is also reminding visitors that swimming within the harbour area, including the marina channel, is strictly prohibited.
People are being urged to respect the water and make safe choices while enjoying the coast this summer.
