Newport City Council is again demonstrating its support for Organ Donation Week which takes place this week.

NHS organisers are asking everyone to go pink to mark the annual awareness raising campaign.

As a Donor City, Newport will show its support for the week by lighting the Civic Centre clock tower in pink from 26 September to 2 October.

Organisers hope that even more people will see how important organ donation is and encourage them to make their loved ones aware of their wishes.

Councillor Jane Mudd, Leader of Newport City Council, said: “In 2019, Newport hosted the inspirational British Transplant Games and we were proud to become a Donor City.

“It was wonderful to see transplant patients participate, hear the moving stories of donor families and meet the amazing staff who carry out their incredible work. It brought home that organ donation is such a precious gift and the difference it can make to a life.

“I would urge people to register their decision about organ donation and then tell their family and friends so they have no doubts about your wishes. It will make them more likely to support that decision.”
