Newport City Council will continue resurfacing Malpas Road next week, with overnight work on the northbound side between Pillmawr Road and the A4042 roundabout.
The work will take place from Monday 21 to Friday 25 September, between 8pm and 5am. The road will remain open southbound while the northbound side is resurfaced.
The first section, from Pillmawr Road to Westfield Gardens, will be worked on Monday and Tuesday. The junction of Westfield Drive and Malpas Road will be closed, with vehicle access to Westfield Drive available via Westfield Way or Russell Drive. Russell Drive can be reached from Malpas Road southbound via the A4042.
There will be no vehicle access to Westfield Gardens, although vehicles already there will be able to leave northbound onto Malpas Road.
The second section, from Llewellyn Grove to the A4042 roundabout, will be resurfaced from Tuesday to Friday. Residents will be able to access Llewellyn Grove and Llewellyn Walk from the south, but will not be able to exit onto Malpas Road while the section is closed.
Vehicles will be able to turn into Almond Drive from both directions. Exits from Almond Drive to Malpas Road will be available southbound but not northbound. Whittle Drive and Oliphant Circle will be accessible via Russell Drive and Edison Ridge.
Bus services using the route will be affected, and the council advises passengers to check with their provider. The work is likely to create noise and dust, and drivers are asked to allow extra time when travelling in the Malpas and Bettws areas.
