On 1st October 2022, Managing Director of Sony UK Technology Centre (UK TEC) Steve Dalton OBE, stood down from his post and handed over the reins to Deputy Managing Director and Operations Director of UK Technology Centre (UK TEC), Sony Europe B.V., Rob Wilson.

After 39 years of dedicated service within the Sony team, Steve transferred his responsibilities to Rob, who has worked for the past 33 years within the Bridgend and Pencoed-based manufacturing facility.

Steve continues to be employed by Sony Europe B.V. in an advisor capacity role on a part-time basis until 31st March 2023, after which he will graduate from the company.

Steve started his career at Sony Bridgend’s TV manufacturing factory in 1983 as an electronics graduate, and worked his way through the ranks, taking responsibility for the challenging task of consolidating the common functions across the Bridgend and Pencoed sites in 2003.

Appointed Managing Director in 2005, he and his team started the transformation and rebuilding of the Pencoed operation into today’s multi-purpose, diverse and sustainable business. Since then, the business sales value has grown by 428% from 200 to 600 employees, not only excelling in the manufacturing of broadcast/professional cameras and after-sales repair but also extending its expertise to the manufacturing of non-Sony products. During his tenure, the Pencoed operation has been recognised with many prestigious industry accolades, including UK’s Best Factory Award.

Commenting on his time at the company, Steve Dalton OBE said: “I have been extremely privileged to lead such a wonderful, committed team here at Sony UK TEC. The company’s success has been very much a collective effort – it is not about what one person does, but instead the cumulative actions of everyone within our organisation.”

“I’m fortunate to have been surrounded by such talented individuals who work extremely hard to ensure we achieve our vision. I am proud of all we have overcome and accomplished in my time as Managing Director, and I wish Rob every success in driving the company forward.”

To ensure a smooth transition of roles, the pair have worked closely during recent years, ensuring prestigious Sony work processes remain at the highest possible standard. Rob will take forward the Sony 2022 financial year initiatives as well as its mid-range plan to develop its high-performing team for further success.

Rob Wilson, newly appointed Manager Director, commented: “I am very excited to take the role of Managing Director and hope to continue Steve’s vision of creating an organisation committed to manufacturing excellence. We will continue our efforts to minimise our impact on the environment, explore and engage with new business opportunities, support our local community through charity work and sponsorship, and have the welfare of our staff at the heart of our operation.”

Hideyuki Furumi, President of Sony Europe B.V., said: “I would like to thank Steve for his significant contribution and wish him all the best when he graduates from Sony in March 2023. I am delighted to welcome Rob into his new position, and I am confident he will continue to drive our success at Pencoed.”
