Cymru to take on Finland in international challenge match in Pinatar

Gemma Grainger’s Cymru will take on Finland in an international challenge match on Saturday 12 November (KO 18:30 BST) in the Pinatar Arena in Spain.

The two sides last met in the 2018 Cyprus Cup, where a Kayleigh Green goal secured the 1-0 win for Cymru.

The time away in Spain will be an opportunity to reflect on the recent 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying campaign, where a last-minute loss in extra time to Switzerland in the Play-Off final stopped Cymru’s path to reach a major tournament for the first time.

The match will also start Cymru’s preparations for the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 qualifying campaign, with the draw for the Qualifying Round due to take place in early 2023.

Part of those preparations will include a fixture in Wrexham during one of next year’s international windows (date and opponents TBC), with Cymru returning to the Racecourse for the first time since their 2-0 win over Estonia in March 2020.

Cymru Manager Gemma Grainger said: “The camp is another opportunity to take a step forward in our development as a team.

“It gives us a chance to come together and review the World Cup qualification campaign, along with playing against another nation that competed in the European Championships in the summer.”
