Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co, has announced the sale of College Fields Nursing Home in Barry, South Wales.

College Fields Nursing Home is an impressive, detached Grade II listed building located in Barry, South Wales. The nursing home is registered for 68 residents and has held an enviable reputation of delivering outstanding nursing care in South Glamorgan for a number of years.

The home was previously owned and run by husband-and-wife team, Mike and Rachel Kemp, who both have extensive experience in the sector, with Mike being a prominent figure in Care Forum Wales and Rachel the Director of Nursing for the home and formerly a matron for 25 years. Mike acquired the site in the 1980s and converted the former student accommodation block to create one of the leading end-of-life care homes in Wales.

It was sold confidentially to allow the pair to pursue a well-earned retirement and has now been purchased by equally experienced regional operators, Jacob and Beena George, who successfully run a number of outstanding nursing homes in the area.

Mike and Rachel Kemp comment, “After owning the home for 33 years, we decided that it was time to retire, and so instructed Christie & Co to sell it for us. We’re really pleased to be passing it over to such experienced operators as Jacob and Beena who we’re sure will ensure continuity of care and really look after the staff and residents that we’ve had the pleasure of working with and for all these years. Wishing all the best to them both.”

Jacob and Beena comment, “It is such a pleasure to add this wonderful specialist nursing home to our portfolio, enabling us to have a resourceful pool for many specialities in the Cardiff and the Vale locality. We are confident that we can continue the legacy that Rachel and Mike have passed over to us, and we will be only too keen to enhance people’s positive experiences and to continue the great relationship with our residents, families, staff, and stakeholders. We also wish a happy retirement to the wonderful couple.”

Oliver McCarthy, Associate Director – Care at Christie & Co, who handled the sale, comments, “I’m very pleased to have been appointed by Mike and Rachel to sell this wonderful care home in Barry. The pair have done so much for the sector, and I’m glad that this sale allows them to retire, they deserve it. I’m pleased to see the home go to Jacob and Beena, who have bought a number of nursing homes from us in the past, and l am sure they will continue delivering the same high level of care.

“The transactional market in Wales remains strong, and this is likely to continue for the remainder of the year and well into 2023.”

College Fields Nursing Home was sold for an undisclosed price.
