Construction of Robertstown modern business units now complete

The new development of 20 modern business units in Robertstown has been handed over to the Council after construction work was completed – and more than half of the units are currently under offer from potential tenants.

The significant development in the Cynon Valley has brought a large area of unused land back into use, creating 20 industrial buildings that range from traditional to hybrid units, and vary in size from 1,000 to 1,700 sq ft. All work has now been completed by contractor R&M Williams, which has transformed the site off Wellington Street since initial clearance work took place in 2020.

The development has been delivered thanks to significant £3.36m funding which was secured by the Council from the European Regional Development Fund through Welsh Government, in order to create this key employment site.

The Council can confirm that 12 of the 20 units are currently under offer, and the appointed letting agent JLL has received a number of enquiries about the availability of the site. The remaining units are being actively marketed by JLL.

Councillor Mark Norris, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Development and Prosperity, said: “I’m very pleased the Robertstown development has now been handed over to the Council after construction of the 20 impressive modern business units has been completed. We’ve welcomed the significant £3.36m funding that was previously secured from the European Regional Development Fund, which has made this development possible.

“The project was initiated to meet the local need and demand for this type of modern business accommodation – which has been reflected in the interest and the formal offers we have received from businesses to operate from the site. The land in Robertstown is a key employment site included within the Local Development Plan, and its development will boost the local economy.

“This scheme follows the new £2.58m business unit created at Parc Coed-Elái in Coed Ely, which is now in use having been completed last year. This scheme was delivered alongside the European Regional Development Fund, with the Council leading on a Joint Venture scheme with Welsh Government.

“The Council will provide residents with further updates as and when new tenants are confirmed for the Robertstown development. The appointed letting agent is working closely with interested businesses with 12 units currently under offer, and continue to look to secure further interest in the remaining space.”
