Cardiff Bus is celebrating one year since the launch of its electric bus fleet and is proud to reveal the substantial environment impact the buses have had since they were introduced.

January 2022 saw the operator unveil its new fleet of 36 fully electric buses as part of its commitment to reducing its emissions and air pollution in the capital city.

After a year of being on the road, the electric buses have spent 94,976 hours in operation, travelled 1,403,603 kms and saved 1,000 tonnes of CO2.

The purchase of the Yutong E12 zero-emission single-decker bus fleet was the largest single order outside of London at the time and was made as part of a joint effort with the bus company’s shareholder Cardiff Council, to improve air quality and make sustainable transport the future of mobility in the city.

The operator’s decision to go electric was motivated by its commitment to having a positive impact on the environment, making the air cleaner in the capital, creating quieter streets for Cardiff, and to reduce its carbon footprint.

Paul Dyer, Managing Director for Cardiff Bus, said: “We are so proud to be celebrating the first year anniversary of our electric bus fleet being on the roads in our city, and to see the significant impact they have had already.

“The introduction of our electric buses was a significant step forward for our company, and it was done during our 120th anniversary, proving 2022 to be a monumental year for us.

“Cardiff Bus has been committed to providing travel for the people of our city for the last 120 years, and we are extremely proud of the part we play in city life. We recognise that electric vehicles are becoming the future of transport, and so we will continue to expand our electric bus fleet and will remain committed to our environmental initiatives and to the people of Cardiff as we look towards the next 120 years of service in our city.”
