Carmarthen care home sold to local operator

Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co, has announced the sale of Erwhir Care Home in Carmarthenshire.

Founded in 1986, Erwhir Care Home is a well-established residential care home registered with the CIW to accommodate up to 15 service users aged 65 years and over who require personal care. The business occupies a substantial Edwardian property in Carmarthen, approximately 30 miles northeast of Swansea and 16 miles north of Llanelli.

This well-regarded care home has an enviable reputation for delivering excellent quality care and has a good reputation within the local area. The home maintains a very high occupancy rate with a good mix of self-funded and local authority-funded clients.

The home has been owned by Aled Rees since 2000 and was recently brought to market to allow him to retire. Following a confidential sales process with Christie & Co, it has been sold to Scott Morris, an existing local operator with one other home close by.

Aled Rees, previous owner of Erwhir Care Home, comments, “The sale of Erwhir is quite a landmark in my life after owning the home for 22 years. I bought Erwhir in Oct of 2000 alongside another care home that I owned. It is the ‘home from home’ place, which has only 15 residents. Being a relatively small home, Erwhir appealed to me as the place where everyone was an individual, and that had person-centred care at the heart of it. After a few years, I sold the other home so that I could concentrate on Erwhir. It’s been a long journey in the life of a registered manager and I now feel that a rest from the sector is due. I would like to congratulate Scott on buying the best care home in the area. Scott has a fresh outlook, and he will ensure that Erwhir continues to develop and remain with a great reputation that started with the owners before me. The very best of luck to him, residents, and staff.”

Oliver McCarthy, Associate Director – Care at Christie & Co, who handled the sale, comments, “I was really pleased to have been instructed by Aled to sell this home that has had so much work, effort, and love put into it over the years. I’m sure that, with his experience of the sector and knowledge of the area, Scott will make a great success of Erwhir Care Home.”

Erwhir Care Home was sold for an undisclosed price.
