The Royal Mint Experience, based in Llantrisant, Wales, is set to host celebrations fit for a King, from the day of His Majesty King Charles III’s Coronation Day, Saturday 6th May 2023. This will include a rare opening of the visitor attraction for 24 hours.

Visitors to The Royal Mint Experience during its 24-hour opening will have the opportunity to be the very first to strike their own Coronation 50p to take home in dated packaging to commemorate the momentous occasion.

Additionally, guests touring The Royal Mint Experience on the day will be the first to marvel at its Coronation-themed exhibition. Featuring a range of unique objects from The Royal Mint Museum’s collection, hands-on interactives and a very special photo opportunity, visitors have the opportunity to discover more about this turning point in the history of the United Kingdom.

The Royal Mint Experience will also be hosting a series of events and activities over the course of the Coronation weekend, which runs from Friday 5th May to Monday 9th May 2023.

Dan Johnson, Visitor Attraction Manager at The Royal Mint Experience said: “We are delighted to be welcoming visitors to The Royal Mint Experience to celebrate the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III. Our 24-hour opening on 6th May is a fantastic opportunity for guests to mark this truly historic moment by striking their own Coronation 50p on the actual date when The King is crowned. The Royal Mint’s Coronation Coin range will also be available to purchase in the gift shop, which will also be available to purchase in the gift shop.

To mark His Majesty’s coronation, we will also have a new Coronation-themed exhibition showcasing rare and interesting coins from The Royal Mint Museum and items that have previously never been on display to members of the public.”

The Royal Mint will also be hosting a series of events and activities over the course of the Coronation weekend including a market of local independent traders, entertainment, and a funfair with vintage fairground rides from Saturday 6th May to Monday 8th May. It is anticipated this will be an extraordinarily busy weekend, so we urge you to book your tickets to avoid disappointment.

Alongside a jam-packed weekend of events and activities, the popular Café will be serving British-themed delights for guests to savour, and the gift shop will be stocking Coronation merchandise.

The Royal Mint Experience welcomes over 50,000 visitors each year. The unique tour takes visitors ‘behind the scenes’ of coin making, followed by an interactive exhibition exploring 1,100 years of The Royal Mint’s history. Visitors will also have the unique experience of seeing The Royal Mint’s workforce producing official UK coins as well as coins for other countries.

The Royal Mint Experience anticipates tickets will sell quickly, so advance booking is recommended. Tickets go on Friday 14th April 2023.
