A University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) student is celebrating graduation with the start of an exciting career after securing a coveted graduate role with the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team.

Nathan Evans, 21, from Bridgend, graduated from UWTSD’s Motorsport Engineering programme on Wednesday, July 15 and will begin his career in elite motorsport engineering with the Silverstone-based Formula One team next month.

Nathan’s appointment marks the culmination of years of dedication to engineering, motorsport, and hands-on mechanical work. Throughout his studies, he combined academic learning with practical experience, developing expertise in vehicle engineering, manufacturing, testing, and simulation.

His final-year dissertation focused on the design, manufacture, and validation of carbon fibre composite tubes for motorsport chassis applications, bringing together advanced materials research, testing, and engineering analysis.

Alongside his studies, Nathan played a key role in the University’s rally team, helping prepare a BMW 130i rally car to Motorsport UK regulations. He also gained valuable industry experience with Innovate Composites and motorsport engineering company MST in North Wales.

His achievements were further recognised when he received the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) Project Award, celebrating his outstanding research and development project, engineering ability, and academic performance.

Nathan said: “Graduating from UWTSD and having already started my career with Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team makes today incredibly special. It’s a proud moment and one that reflects all the opportunities and experiences I’ve had throughout my degree.

“When I started university, Formula One was the dream. The course challenged me to become a better engineer and gave me the practical skills, technical knowledge, and confidence to turn that ambition into reality.

“The hands-on projects, industry placements and time spent working on the rally car were just as valuable as the lectures. They helped me understand what working in a professional engineering environment is really like and prepared me for this next chapter.

“I’m excited to begin learning from some of the best engineers in the world and to keep developing my career in high-performance motorsport.”

Dr Kerry Tudor, Senior Lecturer in Automotive and Motorsport Engineering, said: “Nathan’s success is a fantastic achievement and a fitting way to celebrate his graduation. He has consistently demonstrated the commitment, curiosity and work ethic needed to succeed in a highly competitive industry.

“Throughout his time at UWTSD, Nathan embraced every opportunity to develop both academically and practically. His award-winning final-year project, combined with his involvement in our rally team and industry placements, made him an outstanding candidate for a career in Formula One.

“We’re incredibly proud to see him begin this exciting new chapter and wish him every success with Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team.”
