This International Nurses Day, St John Ambulance Cymru are saying a huge thank you to every nurse, especially their volunteer nurses.
International Nurses Day is held annually on the 12th May, the anniversary of Florence Nightingales birthday. The aim is to celebrate all that nursing does for society and this year’s theme ‘Our Nurses, Our Future’ is highlighting a brighter future for nurses around the world.
Nurses fulfil a variety of different roles within St John Ambulance Cymru, from clinicians and ambulance crews to trustees and fundraisers, they are a key part of the charity’s make up. Without them, St John Ambulance Cymru would not be able to deliver such a high standard of patient care.
“As a paramedic myself, I am humbled to see the selflessness, dedication and commitment that nurses show our patients every day” says David Monk, Clinical Director at St John Ambulance Cymru.
“Nurses at St John Ambulance Cymru are very much part of our future, and will play a key role as we develop our clinical strategy over the years to come” he says.
One volunteer nurse at St John Ambulance Cymru, Jane Van Tiel, says “I have been a member of St John Ambulance Cymru since I was young, which helped me to start my career in nursing. I find being part of St John Ambulance Cymru has enhanced my clinical skills, especially within emergency situations.”
“My nursing skills have been used to encourage young members within the organisation to undertake future careers in healthcare settings and its been so rewarding watching them grow in confidence and develop their skills.”
“St John Ambulance Cymru is like one big family where everyone supports each other. I find being a member of the organisation a valuable asset to my nursing career and support network.”
