Wales’ largest music, science and arts festival, and the first UK festival to sell out all its tickets, Green Man, today announces new line-up additions and day-by-day schedule of its 2023 event. The festival takes place in the epic surroundings of the Black Mountains deep in the heart of Bannau Brycheiniog from the 17th – 20th of August.

Self Esteem is announced as the final headliner for Green Man 2023, following a phenomenal breakthrough for the artist since the release of her universally acclaimed, Mercury Prize-nominated second album Prioritise Pleasure. She previously played Green Man in 2021, delivering a triumphant set to a packed audience ahead of the release of the album.

The line up for Green Man 2023 sees a 50/50 gender split of female artists and female fronted bands, continuing the festival’s commitment to booking a diverse and eclectic line up of talent from around the world.

Cardiff duo, Rogue Jones, have also been added to this year’s line-up. They’ll be performing at the Walled Garden stage on Thursday as part of the Welsh language day in the Walled Garden, alongside acts such as Aisha Vaughan and Caldicot’s, The Bug Club.

Managing director and owner of Green Man festival Fiona Stewart says: “We’re delighted that over 50% of our line-up will be female and non-binary artists. Inclusivity and creating opportunities is at the beating heart of Green Man festival, so having 50% female and non-binary acts throughout the billing, including our headliners, is something we’re thrilled to announce.

“First Aid Kit and Self Esteem will be fantastic headliners, and a real homecoming Green Man moment after seeing their careers develop over the years. From showcase performances on our smaller stages to them returning now at the top of our bill, we are delighted to have them back!”

Also added to the Green Man 2023 line up is post-punk electronic trio MADMADMAD, rising London trio Mary in the Junkyard, and experimental Manchester quartet Mandy, Indiana, who will perform tracks from their revered debut album i’ve seen a way.

Dublin singer-songwriter Aoife Nessa Frances and East London avant-punk artist Nuha Ruby Ra also join the line-up alongside Oscar Lang, Aisha Vaughan, Freak Slug, Iko Cherie, Jake Xerxes Fussell, LOST MAP presents WEIRD WAVE, Floodlights, Sam Akpro, Eddie Chacon, Rogue Jones, Bricknasty, Brad Stank, Suep, MinorConflict and Seb Lowe.

These new names join the previously announced headliners Swedish indie folk sister duo First Aid Kit, legendary space rock band Spiritualized and new wave pioneers Devo. The line up also features Amyl & The Sniffers, Young Fathers, Slowdive, Confidence Man, The Walkmen, Goat, Daniel Avery, Jockstrap, SudanArchives, PVA, Obongjayar, Lankum, Squid and many more brilliant artists across the weekend.

The magic of Green Man lies not just in its scenery and music. Made up of 10 individual areas, the festival also offers a diverse range of events to accompany its incredible line-up, boasting art installations spread throughout the tranquil valley, a beer and cider tent to enjoy a crisp Welsh pint, an Ancient Egypt-themed area of discovery and exploration for the little folk, a relaxation and workshop space for the teenagers, plus science engagement area Einstein’s Garden. Further line ups of music, science, film, comedy & literature will be revealed in the coming months.

Festival goers who have purchased a Settler’s Pass, a special ticket which includes discounts on local heritage sites, galleries, castles and more, will arrive on Monday 14th August for a week in the Welsh valleys as part of their Green Man 2023 experience. Tickets for this year’s festival sold out in just four hours in September 2022, following a fantastic 20th anniversary celebration in the Welsh Mountains just weeks before.
