New generation of bike hub for commuters and visitors in Swansea

Swansea boasts more than 120km of some of the most scenic cycle and pedestrian routes in Wales, with more planned in the coming months.

In addition to that it’s also set up low-cost dedicated bike hubs at the park and ride site and at Quadrant car park for keen cyclists looking to keep their bikes safe and secure from theft and the elements.

Andrew Stevens, Cabinet Member for Environment and Infrastructure, said the Quadrant bike hub is aimed mainly at visitors and people who work in the city centre, while the Fabian Way option is aimed at commuters who fancy an alternative to the park and ride bus.

He said: “Bikes are a brilliant way to get around whether you’re a commuter or heading into the city centre for a day out.

“This time of year, there’s got miles of scenic, off-road routes to choose from and the city centre bike hub in the Quadrant means you can leave it there safe in the knowledge it won’t be stolen or fall victim to bad weather.

“The hub at Fabian Way Park and Ride is a great alternative for regular commuters to using the park and ride bus. For an annual fee that costs less than £1 a week, you can park the car and use the bike hub six days a week.”

He added: “Although we’ve cut the cost of parking to a maximum of £5 a day in most of our city centre car parks, getting on your bike makes an even less expensive alternative and is good for your health and wellbeing too.”

Bike hub lockers on the ground floor at the Quadrant car park cost £1 for six hours or £2 all day.

Apart from a safe, secure location, the bike hub at Fabian Way also offers a bike repair station.
