A charity fun run with a difference is coming to South Wales this October. A series of spooktacular charity Dark Runs will be organised Tŷ Hafan’s Children’s Hospice, who provide specialist care and support for children with life-shortening conditions and their families.

The event is sponsored by Principality Building Society, who chose Tŷ Hafan to be one of their Charity Partners alongside Hope House Tŷ Gobaith Children’s Hospice who operate in North Wales. Principality have pledged to match all donations made to the charity across the events up to a total of £50,000.

The early evening runs, will take place at 4 different locations, starting at Barry Island on October 13th, Swansea Bay on October 14th, Caldicot Castle on October 21st with the final event being hosted at Cyfarthfa Castle on October 28th. The fully accessible runs will range between 2.5km and 3.5km meaning that everyone can get involved, and of course fancy dress is encouraged. Entries are now open, at £10 for adults and £5 for children.

James Davies-Hale, Head of Fundraising at Tŷ Hafan, said: “We are so excited to be launching our new Dark Run fundraising events this autumn.

“These fun-runs are designed for all the family to get dressed up, get together and have a great evening out in some amazing locations around South Wales. And all the while you’ll be helping to raise vital funds to support Tŷ Hafan’s work with children with life-shortening conditions and their families who live in the localities of each Dark Run, and beyond.

“Principality’s pledge to match-fund what we raise up to £50,000 for these four runs is fantastic, we’re really grateful for their continued support. I hope that this will be a massive incentive for our supporters - long-standing and new - to get dressed up, get out there and raise as much as they can for us because thanks to our friends at Principality whatever they raise will be doubled. What’s not to love about that?”

Tony Smith, Chief Governance Officer at Principality Building Society, said: “We’re really proud to be supporting the Tŷ Hafan team as they put together these exciting events. We know the atmosphere is going to be amazing, and as ever there will be a great family feel to the celebrations. The current financial climate means that donations are more important than ever before to maintain the vital services that Tŷ Hafan provide for the children and families who they support, we proud to match-fund all donations at these events and can’t wait to get involved.”
