Ogmore Vale residents now have a host of local history at their fingertips after an accessible digital kiosk has been installed.
The kiosk, in Nantymoel Heritage Hub, has been installed to encourage more people locally to access over 20,000 pictures and publications which share in insight into the changing face of the local community over the past 200 years.
The user-friendly kiosk will be accessible to everyone who visits the hub, Nantymoel Boys & Girls Club and the Community Cafe. It will be accessible at all times the centre is open and can also be made available at other specific times by pre-arrangement.
The kiosk has been made possible thanks to the Ogmore Valley Local History Society which applied for funding to bring the project to life. The Society was successful in being granted over £3,600 from local energy company, Pennant Walters, from a fund linked to its Pant y Wal Wind Extension Farm, adjacent to Ogwr Valley.
Huw Daniel, Secretary at Ogmore Valley Local History Society, explains:
“This project builds on previous support from the windfarm which saw us refurbish the 1990 Ogmore Valley Federation Stone Miners Memorial.
“The kiosk has long been a dream for us. We simply want to share the history of the area with people far and wide and encourage local youngsters to understand more about the make-up of our community.
“We have a rich source of data, information and photographs and using the kiosk technology we have been able to bring these to life so that they are accessible for all to enjoy.
“Siting the kiosk at the hub is a great way of encouraging all the young people who use the local facilities to sift through and take in the information it contains. We hope that many people locally will enjoy learning more about our history for years to come.”
