More details have been confirmed for this year’s extended Newport Food Festival.

The festival kicks off with a supper event on the evening of Friday 13th October at the Mercure Hotel’s NP20 Bar and Kitchen.

The council is delighted to announce that the festival’s patron chef, Hywel Jones, will be taking diners on a culinary exploration of fabulous Welsh, Georgian and German cuisine, to celebrate Newport’s links with its twin cities of Kutaisi and Heidenheim.

Hywel will serve up a three-course meal comprising of one dish from each of the three countries, starting with an aubergine terrine inspired by the flavours of Georgia, followed by a Welsh venison steak, and concluding with an apple strudel. A vegan menu will also be available.

Tickets for the supper are limited and are on sale now, priced at just £45 per head.

Details of the traders who will be at the traditional food market on Saturday 14th October have also been released.

Many familiar faces are returning to the festival, such as Beth’s Bakes, Spirit of Wales, Buzbee’s Tonics and Welshcakes by Mum and Me, as well as some new stalls for 2023, including Nannie G’s Kitchen and Scout Coffee.

A full list of confirmed traders is available to view on the festival website.

Saturday will also see Friars Walk will be hosting the vegan and vegetarian village, as well as the finals of Newport Youth Academy’s Teen Chef competition taking place in Newport Market, before a programme of chef demonstrations gets underway.

Further details, including the chefs taking part in this year’s chef demonstrations, as well as the line-up for Sunday’s live music and street food takeover in High Street, will be announced in due course.
