St David’s Dewi Sant Cardiff has appointed City Hospice as its charity of the year for 2023/2024, supporting the vital palliative care and counselling services that City Hospice provides to the local community.

City Hospice, Cardiff’s local hospice, is the only provider of home-based specialist palliative care in the capital. In addition to providing care and services including welfare advice and complementary therapies to patients with terminal or life limiting illnesses, the charity offers counselling and support services for their families.

The charity needs to raise £2million each year to provide their services free of charge and the work would not be possible without the support from the local community. Funds raised by St David’s Dewi Sant will ensure the charity can continue to care for patients and their families at what can be the most difficult time of their lives.

As St David’s charity of the year partner, City Hospice will receive support through various fundraising and volunteering efforts in the city centre shopping destination, making a meaningful difference to the local community while doing so.

Helen Morgan, Centre Director at St David’s Dewi Sant, said: “We’re pleased to announce City Hospice as St David’s new charity partner of the year, a charity committed to providing the highest care, comfort and support to patients and those close to them.

“We’re looking forward to hosting and taking part in charitable events in the centre over the next year, helping to support the incredible work City Hospice does for our local community, and raising funds for a truly worthy cause.”

Liz Booyse, Chief Executive of City Hospice, said: “We are thrilled to have been chosen by St David’s Dewi Sant as their new charity partner. This partnership, based in the heart of the city, will help us reach people from Cardiff and beyond and raise vital funds and awareness of our services.”
