12-year-old tennis ace from Cardiff, Niall Pickerd-Barua, recently claimed back-to-back victories at Tennis Europe’s boys under-14 cup championships in Norway and Finland.

These recent wins top off a year of successes for Niall, following the under-14 Championship titles earnt at the Lexus Junior National Championships and the 2023 Scottish Junior Open in the summer — demonstrating his potential as a future star of British tennis.

Not only has Niall dominated the singles category, he’s also been successful when paired with fellow tennis talent — taking the doubles crown at the Scottish Junior Open in the summer and reaching the doubles finals at the recent Cinia Next Gen Tour in Finland.

Having played tennis since age of three, Niall has continuously showcased his talent on the court — becoming one of Wales’ most promising young players.

From attending local training at Cardiff Castle Lawn Tennis club, Swansea Tennis Centre (Regional Player Development Centre) and Cardiff Met University to training at Mouratoglou Tennis Academy in France, his recent achievements have put him on the map for the sport in Wales — and beyond.

Chris Lewis, Head of Performance at Tennis Wales said: “Nail continues to impress us, both nationally and internationally. It’s such a fantastic way for him to end the 2023 competitive season, and we hope that his successes will provide him with plenty of confidence for the upcoming new year — showcasing that he can produce his best tennis when it matters most; on the match court.”
