RCT Council has been advised that arrangements for the first journey near Llwydcoed and Hirwaun have been changed at short notice, and will now take place in the daytime on Friday, January 19.

Plant for an electrical power station is being transported by a specialist haulage company from the County Borough’s northern boundary with Merthyr Tydfil to Hirwaun.

The first journey was initially planned for Thursday evening, but due to the very cold weather it will now take place in daylight hours on Friday when the road temperatures are more suitable.

This will require the closure of Crematorium Road from 9am on Friday, January 19, operated with rolling roadblocks from South Wales Police.

The convoy aims to have passed the entrance to Llwydcoed Crematorium before 10.30am, enabling access to the site for visitors via the northern access off Crematorium Road.

Cwmynysminton Road will also be closed to through traffic while the rolling road closure along Crematorium Road is in operation.

The traffic team on the ground will assist local traffic, including advising on access for residents and business owners.

Owners of parked vehicles on Crematorium Road are asked to arrange for their vehicles to be parked elsewhere.

The road closure will then move onto the Future Valleys Construction site at Croesbychan, to allow the abnormal load to be parked.

The journey will then be continued onto Hirwaun via the A465, starting after the peak afternoon traffic period and continuing into the evening (up until midnight).

Road users are advised to find an alternative route, or to allow for extra time in anticipation of potentially significant delays.

The Council has been advised that this journey will be repeated on two future dates – Friday, January 26, and Friday, February 2 – subject to fair weather.
