Work resumes on new health care centre in Bridgend

Bridgend County Borough Council has welcomed news that work is to resume on the construction of an all-new health care centre and 59 affordable homes close to Bridgend town centre later this month.

Linc Cymru have appointed Welsh firm Wynne Construction to complete the Sunnyside Wellness Village, which is being developed on the site of the council’s former Sunnyside offices and the town’s old magistrates court.

Work on the new three-storey centre originally started at the site in 2021, but had to stop after a previous contractor went into administration, forcing Linc Cymru to launch a new procurement process and look for an alternative contractor with appropriate experience of constructing integrated health care and housing developments.

I am delighted to see that work is restarting on the development of this new community facility.

Once completed, the site is going to offer 59 much-needed affordable homes along with a GP Practice, community dental services, a pharmacy and clinics specialising in adult audiology, speech and language, podiatry, sexual health and more, all of which will support the development of a vibrant, sustainable community within the town centre area.

Councillor Rhys Goode, Cabinet Member for Housing, Planning and Regeneration

The project is being carried out by Linc Cymru in partnership with Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, and with the support of Bridgend County Borough Council and Welsh Government.

With the new homes expected to be ready early in 2026 and the healthcare centre opening in late 2025, it will cater for patients who currently use the Bridgend Group Practice, Ashfield and Newcastle surgeries, and Bryncethin, Bryntirion and Quarella Road clinics.

A ‘meet the contractor’ event will take place between 2pm-6pm on Tuesday 23 April at nearby Bridgend Life Centre to give residents an opportunity to speak to representatives from Wynne Construction, ask questions and find out more about how the work will take place.
