Work scheduled to begin on Cardiff park play area

Work to redevelop the junior play area at Sanatorium Park in Canton is due to begin at the end of June. The work is due to be completed by the autumn and will see a new, natural play area created on the site of the existing play area.

To allow works to be completed as quickly and safely as possible, the nearby toddler play area will be closed for approximately three weeks, at the start of the works. The toddler area will re-open in time for the summer holidays.

The new natural play area will feature a grassed mound, approximately 2-3 metres high, that will form the basis of the new play area and allow slides, climbing platforms and other natural play features to be installed. Creating this mound will require vehicles to access the area and will result in increased vehicle traffic within the park.

A council spokesperson said: “Redeveloping the junior play area at Sanatorium Park is part of our ongoing programme of improvements to parks across the city.

“There will be some disruption within the park while the new play area is constructed. We would like to thank residents for their understanding during this time and hope local families will enjoy the new play facility once it is completed.”
