AN AWARD-WINNING college is attracting students from across the globe.

Coleg Cambria is making waves on the international stage having welcomed more than 75 Chinese students to its summer school programme over the summer.

With youngsters from as far away as Zimbabwe, Thailand, Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates joining further and higher education courses this academic year, Cambria’s international team is now focused on new territories including the Far East.

First class vocational qualifications, accommodation with local families and a popular buddy system have all supported their decision to enrol at the north east Wales college and take up their studies in the UK.

International Coordinator Natalie Roberts says Coleg Cambria’s reputation overseas is growing and was bolstered by the introduction of a raft of new courses for 2017/18 in engineering, agriculture, creative media and catering, coupled with their industry links and career progression opportunities.

“The summer school was very successful and gave the students a flavour of life at Cambria and here in North Wales,” said Natalie, previously International Sales Executive at Oxford University Press.

“The college’s cutting-edge facilities and courses are a big selling point, but so is the cost of living in this region, its beautiful scenery and the vast array of sectors and businesses we work alongside.

“These are all key to attracting students from all over the world, and only reinforce our plans to build on the relationships we have in place with partner colleges and institutions in Asia and across Europe.”

During their stay in Flintshire and Wrexham, the Chinese cohorts explored Wales and other areas of the UK, discovering more about UK history, language and culture while taking in sights and landmarks such as Windsor Castle, the British Museum and even Manchester United’s stadium, Old Trafford.

The college has also delivered Erasmus placements to students from Slovakia, Romania, Hungary and Western Europe to experience a wide range of programmes from car mechanics and hairdressing, to performing arts, design, business and textiles.

Natalie added: “Cambria has such a strong work-based curriculum which appeals to anyone – wherever they are in the world – because there is the best chance of a career on graduating.

“The college is truly world-leading, and with a new strategy in place we will further build on the hard work which has taken place in past years to establish Coleg Cambria as a truly international institution.”
