The countdown is on to Swansea Council’s annual firework display.

Thousands of residents, families and students are set to return to the St Helen’s sports ground to watch the spectacular ‘Musicals After Dark’ themed display on November 5.

It should be an entertaining, affordable night – and here’s all you need to know.

Council cabinet member Robert Francis-Davies said: “This is a key event in our annual programme of great events for the people of Swansea – and we want to do all we can to ensure those who attend have a fantastic night out.

“It’ll be busy so I encourage people to set off as early as possible whether they’re coming on foot, by bike, by bus, car or other mode of transport.”

All you need to know about Swansea Fireworks Display: Musicals After Dark

Get there early to enjoy lots of entertainment

Gates will open at 5pm, and the entertainment begins soon after.

As well as the main fireworks display, there is lots of entertainment to see. On the entertainment stage there will be performances from Penclawdd Brass Band, Clever Cubs, Abbey Players, Cockett Amateur Operatic Society and Mellin Theatre Arts.

Alongside this there will be musical characters walking around through the crowds including Wicked’s Elphaba and Glinda, The Phantom of the Opera, Olaf and Anna from Frozen, and many more from your favourite musicals.

    Be prepared

To ensure you get a place at the event, and for easier access, it is encouraged that you pre-book your tickets.

With three gates for advanced ticket holders, it will be a lot quicker for you to get into the ground and start enjoying the event. There will be on the day tickets for sale, but long queues for this gate are highly likely and will delay your entrance to the event.

Tickets can be purchased at www.visitswanseabay.com/fireworks and start from just £2.

As this is an outdoor event and depending on the weather, the ground can get muddy, so ensure you have suitable warm clothes and shoes.

In the interest of public safety no fireworks or sparklers will be allowed to be brought into the ground.

Please be aware that this will be a very noisy event and dogs are not allowed in St Helen’s (except for assistance dogs).

    Enjoy food and drink

With a wide range of food and drinks available, why not enjoy some treats whilst watching the entertainment.  Food trucks include street burgers, wood-fired pizzas, hot dogs & loaded fries, toasted marshmallows and more. Cash and card can be used at the food trucks.

    Look up and down

Not only will the fireworks be visible in the sky but there will also be ground-level wonders inside the ground with flame effects and fire-writing.

The fireworks display is expertly choreographed to a playlist of songs from the musicals which will complement each other and provide a visual and audio treat for everyone in the ground.

    Parking

All event car parks are operational from 4pm. Car parks are pay on arrival only, there is no pre-booking.

Please be aware that limited accessible parking is available at each car park on a first come, first served basis.

Parking will be £5 and available at:

    • Recreation Ground Car Park (Postcode – SA2 0AU)
    • Civic Centre West Car Park (Postcode – SA1 3SN)
    • Guildhall Car Park (Postcode – SA1 4PE)
    • Lacrosse Field Car Park (Postcode – SA2 0AU)

Traffic Enforcement Officers will be patrolling the area so please ensure you are legally parked to avoid a fine ruining your night.

    Plan Your Journey

To ensure the safety of attendees several road closures will be in place:

Mumbles Road, between Brynmill Lane and Guildhall Road South (East and Westbound) for 30 minutes between 7.15pm and 7.45pm to allow for the egress of visitors.

Please note that this will affect departures from the Recreation Ground and Lacrosse car parks at the end of the night. Vehicles will be unable to leave these car parks until it is safe to re-open Mumbles Road.

    Road Closures: 16:00 – 21:00:

Gorse Lane – the alternative route will be via Mumbles Road, Guildhall Road South, Francis Street and King Edward Road, similarly this route will operate in the reverse direction.

Bryn Road between Osborne Terrace and King Edward Road – the alternative route will be via Osborne Terrace, Brynmill Avenue, St Albans Road, Finsbury Terrace, Marlborough Road and Rhyddings Park Road, similarly this route will operate in the reverse direction.

King Edward Road between Rhyddings Park Road and Gorse Lane.

Finsbury Terrace between Bryn Road and Brynmill Crescent.

Entry to Brynmill Crescent, Pantycelyn Road, Taliesyn Road and Ceiriog Road will be prohibited, except for emergency services and local residents.

Mumbles Road, between Brynmill Lane and Guildhall Road South
No Parking Restriction and Tow-Away Order.
