Bridgend County Borough Council’s Cabinet is due to consider the findings of a 12-week consultation on dog fouling and irresponsible dog control on 22 September 2026.
The consultation attracted 1,273 responses. Of those who took part, 90.9 per cent agreed that a proposed Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) for dog control should be implemented.
If approved, the PSPO would require people responsible for dogs to collect and properly dispose of dog faeces, carry suitable bags or another means of collecting it, and put a dog on a lead when instructed by an authorised officer if it is considered out of control or causing alarm or distress.
Respondents also raised concerns about dog fouling on playing fields and sports pitches, including possible effects on children’s safety and public health and the use of those facilities by sports clubs and communities.
Cabinet will be asked to consider whether a further consultation should be held on a separate PSPO covering specified areas where additional restrictions on dogs could apply.
