Goalhanger, a production company co-founded by hesgoal former footballer Gary Lineker and Tony Pastor, has announced its decision to close its TV production arm. The move is part of the company’s strategic shift towards focusing on podcast production.

Founded by renowned footballer Gary Lineker and business partner Tony Pastor, Goalhanger Films was put into liquidation this week.

The company had been responsible for producing popular shows such as “Football, Prince William and Our Mental Health” for the BBC and “Keane & Vieira – Best of Enemies” for ITV.

Despite the closure of its TV division, it’s not all doom and gloom at Goalhanger. The company will now concentrate on podcast production – an area where it has already achieved significant success.

Goalhanger’s “The Rest Is…” series has gained popularity across various fields including sports, politics, history, and entertainment.

One of the most notable podcasts in this series is “The Rest Is Football”, hosted by Lineker himself alongside Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer and fellow pundit Micah Richards.

This shift towards podcasting seems to be a strategic move that aligns with current trends in media consumption. With more people tuning into podcasts than ever before due to their convenience and accessibility, it appears that Goalhanger is positioning itself at the forefront of this booming industry.

In what comes as good news amidst major changes within the organisation, there will be no lay-offs following the closure of Goalhanger Films’ TV division. All former employees are set to work across the new focus area – Goalhanger Podcasts.

In related news, the BBC recently announced that Gary Lineker would step down from his Match Of The Day presenting duties at the end of the season.

However, Lineker will continue to present the “Match Of The Day: Top Ten” podcast, which is produced by Goalhanger and is available on BBC Sounds.

This move further solidifies Goalhanger’s commitment to podcast production and its continued collaboration with major broadcasting entities like the BBC.
