Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet member for Education, Inclusion and the Welsh Language, Councillor Rhys Lewis attended Bryn Celynnog Comprehensive School alongside Welsh Government’s Cabinet Secretary for Education, Lynne Neagle MS on Thursday, November 14th, to formally open new facilities and meet the pupils and staff that are benefitting from them.

The school received brand new classrooms which are dedicated to sixth form students, as well as modern facilities for pupils across all age groups. These include spaces for art, maths and numeracy lessons, and two new ICT suites. Pupils at the school are also enjoying the new gym, fitness suite and dance studio, alongside a new and improved bus pick-up/drop-off area, and a new grass rugby field which was completed earlier in the year.

This investment has been jointly delivered by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and Welsh Government through the Sustainable Communities for Learning Programme – and is part of a wider £75.6m schools investment programme across the Greater Pontypridd area.

Councillor Rhys Lewis, Rhondda Cynon Taf Councils Cabinet Member for Education, Inclusion and The Welsh Language, said: “Having the pupils show us around their new facilities, I can see how the new additions to the school are welcomed by learners and supporting their education and ambitions.

“I’m very pleased to have the Cabinet Secretary join me today and officially open the new facilities at Bryn Celynnog. We have worked closely and in partnership with Welsh Government over many years, and are thankful for their continued support in improving and modernising our schools across Rhondda Cynon Taf.”

Cabinet Secretary for Education, Lynne Neagle MS, said: “It’s a privilege to officially open these fantastic new facilities and see firsthand how they will empower the learners at Bryn Celynnog Comprehensive School to reach their full potential. This investment reflects Welsh Government’s commitment to enhancing not only educational opportunities, ensuring pupils have the best environment to learn in; but also providing sport and well-being facilities that can be used by all in the community.”
