They were found by fire officers after a fire broke out at the premises

A takeaway fire led officers to stash of class A drugs worth tens of thousands of pounds.

On Tuesday, March 25 (2024), fire officers were called to tackle a blaze caused by an electrical fault at the New India Kitchen in Caerphilly Road, Cardiff.

Omar Khan was inside the premises at the time – he was refusing to leave the premises and it soon became clear why.

While making the premises safe, fire officers stumbled across what they suspected to be illegal drugs – a white powder in small grip seal bags left on a cabinet.

The Cardiff drug dealer – a kitchen porter at the premises – had been secretly using storage space above the takeaway to store his drugs.

Just a few weeks before, Khan asked the takeaway owner if he could use the premises to store some things as he was moving home.

The business owner agreed, not knowing it would be used by Omar Khan to store cannabis, cocaine, crack cocaine, heroin and MDMA worth more than £40,000.

Omar Khan, 38, of Whitchurch Road, Gabalfa, was arrested and charged with multiple supply and concerned in supply offences.

He was jailed for 48 months following a trial at Cardiff Crown Court on March 25.
