Wales & West Utilities has won a leading industry award in the Investment in People category at the 2025 Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers (IGEM) Gas Industry Awards.

The gas emergency and pipeline service, which looks after the gas network for Wales and the south west of England, was announced the winner of the award for its pioneering financial benefits and wellbeing support provided to its workforce of over 2,000 colleagues at a ceremony at London’s Intercontinental Hotel.

In winning the award, Wales & West Utilities was praised by judges for responding to colleague feedback and subsequently launching a financial and wellbeing initiative that was designed with colleague needs at its heart. The initiative goes further than traditional colleague benefit schemes and allows colleague autonomy over financial benefits, based on their individual priorities.

Introduced in 1998 the Gas Industry Awards, organised by the Institution of Gas Engineers & Managers (IGEM) and the Energy & Utilities Alliance (EUA), have been recognising and rewarding the outstanding achievements of individuals and organisations working in the gas sector for over 25 years.

Wales & West Utilities were also finalists in three other award categories:

Large Company of the Year (Over 250 Employees)
    Customer Service
    Engineer of the Year
Bethan Jones, Head of People & Engagement, was thrilled with the result:

“Being hailed the winner in the Investment in People category in these awards is fantastic, and it’s great that IGEM has recognised the work that we are undertaking to ensure our colleagues are at the heart of our operations.

“As a team we are dedicated to the very best HR and people practices, and to be recognised alongside other industry leaders is an honour.

“This achievement, along with being named finalists in three other categories, motivates us to continue striving for excellence in all that we do at Wales & West Utilities.”
Wales & West Utilities, the gas emergency and pipeline service, brings energy to 7.5m people across the south west of England and Wales. If you smell gas, or suspect the presence of carbon monoxide, call us on 0800 111 999 straight away, and our engineers will be there to help any time of day or night.
