The much-anticipated Pick Your Own Strawberries season is now open at Porth Farm, Caersws, which is part of the growing movement #BackBritishFarming.

The owners are inviting families, friends and fruit lovers of all ages to visit and enjoy one of the “sweetest experiences of the year”.

Also available to pick are sunflowers, meadow flowers and summer vegetables, including new potatoes. Blackcurrants and raspberries have all been picked but Porth Farm’s pumpkin patch will be ready this autumn.

Set in the picturesque Upper Severn Valley countryside, the farm offers a day out filled with fresh air, local produce, a small adventure playground, cabin café and a dog friendly Woodland Wander.

“It’s lovely to welcome people back into the fields to experience the joy of picking strawberries at their freshest,” says Gerwyn Vaughan, founder of Porth Farm. “It’s a tradition that celebrates the best of the British summer and our commitment to sustainable, community-focused British farming.”

Porth Farm is part of a growing movement #BackBritishFarming, reconnecting communities to their food and the land it grows on. The farm supports local employment, school growing projects and biodiversity initiatives.

“This isn’t just about strawberries,” added Gerwyn. “It’s about creating space for people to slow down, appreciate nature and farming and enjoy something real. We’re excited to share the season with our visitors.”

Porth Farm’s PYO strawberry tunnels are carefully managed to ensure juicy, sun-ripened strawberries at their peak. The tunnels are accessible with wide paths for prams and wheelchairs and the waist height picking is designed to avoid backache!

The on-site cabin cafe has homemade jams, Winsbury Dairies ice cream, strawberry milkshake made fresh to order, tasty cakes and local Welsh treats.

The children’s area has a nature trial – Woodland Wander – play tunnels and picnic benches.

To ensure the best experience and reduce food waste, visitors pay for what they pick by weight. Porth Farm is located at Moat Lane, Caersws SY17 5SE and is open to pickers from 10am to 5pm Wednesday to Saturday.

Check the farm’s Facebook page for daily updates and for opening days due to fruit availability!
