The City of Newport will be hosting he start for the upcoming Lloyds Tour of Britain Mens Stage 6 race taking place between Newport and Cardiff on Sunday 7 September 2024. The team presentation, before the final stage of the race will be held inside the Geraint Thomas Velodrome, so spectators will be able to secure limited free tickets to enjoy the live team presentations from inside the Geraint Thomas Velodrome.

The event will start at 10am, with the presentation beginning at 10.30am followed by the race start at 11.45am. Newport Live, Newport City Council and Beicio Cymru with the support of British Cycling will hold a whole host of events on the day too including track taster sessions, a bike valet service and more – details of which will be announced over the coming days and can be found by following Newport Live on social and checking the website.

The start of the stage, and the team parking area will both be located outside the Geraint Thomas Velodrome and so tickets will not be required for outdoor areas but it’s strongly recommended to get tickets for the presentation as its likely to be a brilliant spectacle and a once in a life time opportunity!

“The Tour of Britain Men stage 6 is being hosted by Newport City Council in partnership with Newport Live, and is being funded by UK government through its Shared Prosperity Fund” explained Andrea Ovey, Commercial Director at Newport Live. “We’re so thrilled to be involved in this way, not least because of the renaming in celebration of Geraint’s Tour de France win in 2018, which is why we renamed it of course and the Tour of Britain this year marks Geraint’s retirement from professional cycling”.

Newport Live’s Geraint Thomas National Velodrome of Wales is one of just five indoor Velodromes in the UK, the national facility in Wales and  hosts many local, national and international events as well as running a series of cycling sessions for everyone from children to adults, and at every stage from learning to ride, to advanced competition stage track cycling.
